Framework for AI agents: MCP Gateway links AI with data sources and apps
At KubeCon EU in London, Solo.io announced the MCP Gateway, aimed at integrating AI models with data sources and external tools in cloud environments through the open-source Model Context Protocol. The project, executed through an API gateway in Kubernetes known as kgateway, is backed by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Solo.io also transferred its AI agent framework, kagent, to the CNCF, facilitating autonomous AI agent usage in automating tasks. This framework, built on Microsoft’s AutoGen, includes agents for data analysis and task execution, tools adhering to the MCP standard, and a programming interface for AI agent development. Solo.io's founder, Idit Levine, envisions a future where users can define tasks in natural language, and AI agents convert this input into functional software. She indicated that Solo.io plans to release more programs soon to advance this vision of AI-driven software development. (Source)
AI agents emerge as potential targets for cyberattackers
Digital entities like bots and AI agents have become significant targets for cyberattacks as organizations increasingly rely on them, according to a report by cybersecurity firm Delinea. For every human identity, there are around 46 non-human identities (NHIs), expected to surpass 45 billion by 2025, playing vital roles in automatic machine-to-machine operations. However, these NHIs often go unnoticed in security measures, posing significant cybersecurity risks. Reports from Delinea and CrowdStrike highlight that NHIs are frequently left with stagnant credentials and exposed to third-party vendors, creating vulnerabilities. Notably, nearly 20% of organizations have faced security incidents related to NHIs, yet over 70% of these identities are not updated within recommended timeframes, significantly enhancing unauthorized access risks. As prominent companies like Microsoft and SAP release AI tools for business functions, the focus on securing NHIs becomes increasingly critical. (Source)
